FROM THE PRESIDENT

Your Church Council would like to bring to all our members and friends a concern about church Finances. Expenses during this winter have been more than expected at a time when fewer members are in South Fork attending church. Snow removal, heating expenses - gas and electric, insurance costs, for example, have gone up.
One way we could turn our situation around is to cash in some CD’s that have been given to the church over many years. We are reluctant to do this because much of this giving had been designated for needed building projects. That’s why our Church Council wanted to contact our members and friends. We would like to ask you to consider a 7% or possible 10% increase in your regular giving over the next few months; if we can do this, our situation will improve.
In addition, and as a one-off gift, you might be willing to make a special offering to help our situation immediately. Please use the enclosed envelope for this additional gift.
Our Church Council felt we could make a contribution by seeing that our heating units are working properly and not in use when they are not necessary. We ask that our expenses be reviewed and that the financial implications of new programs be considered.
If increasing our church giving is possible, we can begin turning our financial situation around during this month of March. Thank you for all you have done for the church in the past. We hope very much to see a needed change soon in our church finances.
Wayne Odom

Constitution & Legal Documents Committee Report
Q: Are copies of the proposed Bylaws and Constitution available?
A: No, the committee is still at work “tweaking” the documents. The com mittee will have more meetings to complete its work, with one scheduled in early March with Attorney Schilken.
Q: When will the congregation have the opportunity to study the revised documents?
A: The IMPORTANT “SAVE THE DATE” in this process is Wednesday, April 16 at 6:00 p.m. Attorney Schilken will give a “power point” presentation regarding the documents. This meeting is open to all church members. Those in attendance will be given hard copies (one per family) of the documents.
Q: My schedule does not allow me to be present on April 16, at 6:00 p.m. Will there be another opportunity to hear Attorney Schilken and get copies of the documents?
A: Yes, there will be a repeat of the April 16 presentation on Friday, April 18 at noon.
Q: How can I help make this process go smoothly?
A: Pray for the efforts of several church members; pray that the “words of mouths” and the “meditations of hearts” might be acceptable in the sight of the Lord.
Congregational Meeting to approve new legal documents will be held on Sunday May 18th.
LONG RANGE PLANNING GROUP
The Church Council appointed a Long Range Planning Group to consider, in a planned way, the use of our church site and future development needs. The committee held its first meeting on Wednesday, January 30th. Exciting and challenging projects were discussed. The committee plans to meet again in March. |
